Who is Operation Smile®?

The Mission of Operation Smile

Throughout the world, Operation Smile volunteers repair childhood facial deformities while building public and private partnerships that advocate for sustainable healthcare systems for children and families. Together we create smiles, change lives, and heal humanity.

Did you know it only costs $240.00 to change the life of a child and give them a brand new smile?

Arnold’s story is from the Operation Smile website.

“Just five years old and already I know about rejection, denial and disappointment. It’s a hard lesson for a child like me whose only desire is to be normal. Through no fault of my own, I was born with a disfiguring cleft lip. Outside of our home, my mother says I would duck and cover my head since it hurt me so much to be stared at. I love to play baseball though, and it took a lot of courage for me to join the other village kids when they played because of how much they teased me.

Every night before going to bed, I would get on my knees and pray for a miracle that would make me look just like all the other kids. My prayers were answered. During the Operation Smile medical mission to Barinas, Venezuela, I was one of more than 160 children selected for surgery. When my father saw me in the recovery room, he said, “I feel joy, much joy. I thank all the doctors. May they keep performing this good work, not only for my child, but for all the children who need it.”

Join the Effort

When choosing to support Operation Smile, Close to My Heart and its Consultants choose to support children with facial deformities all over the world. Your money and time help sustain a charity that has helped over 100,000 children in the past 25 years. With your help, even more children can be helped in the years to come.

How can you get involved?

Twice a year I host an all day crop supporting Operation Smile.  All of the profits from your registration, raffle tickets, 50/50, and Close To My Heart purchases are donated to Operation Smile.  I don’t profit from these two events, it’s my way of giving back from all that I’ve been given, throughout the year.  On average, we raise 10 smiles at each event.

The cost of the event is $40.00.  It includes lunch, dinner, light snacks, and endless beverages.  The event is an 12 hour crop.  It’s held at the Candlelight Wedding Chapel and Hall in Shelby Twp., MI.  We have room for 75+ croppers.  It’s a great way to spend time with friends and help well deserving children in need.

Please contact me directly to be put on the Operation Smile Charity Crop email list.  This is a separate email that I send out to past participants for advanced seating.
